Happy New Year and welcome to 2012

We had a crazy end to the year with video after video being produced and delivered before the Christmas break. Normally it can be pretty quiet in November and December but we were flat out with the amount of work we had on. Some of the projects finished in December were the corporate video for the Nehemiah Foundation, which will be used to promote their services on a more national scale, a series of promo videos for the brand new library of Birmingham, as well as a short series of videos for an event, which needed some interesting background visuals. This was all on top of a few TV commercials we helped get aired on ITV and the continued editing of Three Wheels North.

So all in all 2011 was a fabulous year and I am sure 2012 will be even better with some very exciting news to come very soon! As always thank you to everyone for the past year and I look forward to working with you all again in the future.

20th October 2011 – Decorex 2011

Decorex International 2011, invites the design community to source exquisite product and be inspired by pioneering design talent. Join us at the world renowned venue, Royal Hospital Chelsea to celebrate with those who Love Design. The video captures a variety of the exhibitors.

20th October 2011 – IP Expo

Filmed the IP Expo in London Earls Court. It was a pretty exciting event showcasing some of the latest technology. The majority of which seemed to be all about Cloud Technology. Plus a great presentation by Steve Wozniak who for those that don’t know is the co founder of Apple.

17th October 2011 – The Boodles 2011

Here is the final video for The Boodles 2011. It was a tennis event attracting some of the worlds top players. Set within the beautiful grounds of Stoke Park, The Boodles provides world class tennis within a quintessential English Country Garden experience. The video captured all that took place on the day.

October 2011 – Perhaps it is not the end of the Summer

What began with quite a heat wave has now calmed down again so the shorts and t-shirts can be put away once and for this year. We have been busy as usual working on a variety of projects. 3WheelsNorth is slowly taking shape as we have gone through all the footage and have it al organised. When I say we what I mean is Paul and Ollie have gone through all the footage and basically done all the hard work so that it is now ready to tell its story.

We filmed a video in London for one of the big Industry expos and have another coming up towards the end of the month. We also are lucky enough to be making a promo video for Legends who are a tribute band covering Ray Charles, Dusty Springfield and Elvis. They came in earlier this week to go through the footage and it has to of been one of my most enjoyable sessions to date. Go check them out if they are touring near you.

The big event this month has been our comedy lab pitch to Channel 4. We have a wonderful script, written by David Nicholds about the life of…well actually the details remain secret for a little while longer. After a few weeks of prep we got a small but brilliant crew together and we shot a few scenes, which we will then be sending in along with the script etc. I would like to say thank you to the crew who worked tirelessly to ensure everything looked great. We also had help from other organisations such as City Nites, Taylor Johns in Coventry and the Kasbah night club also in Coventry so thank you for your help too. Check back to see the updates on this project as there will be video clips, a website and a song being created for it.

September 2011 – End of the Summer

After a nice long break in August it was straight back to work with a bang. There were a quite a few videos completed this month including Boodles and the Delcam tour video, which they took to China with them to help promote the HQ here in Birmingham. We also got to welcome home Ollie Gallant after his epic journey to the Artic Circle on a Motor Bike. Editing for that started straight away and we already are finding some amazing footage as well as stories from the people he met. 25.07.11 – Delcam Orthotics Event Bath 2011 – Video Production Birmingham

The video for Delcam Orthotics is now on Vimeo and can be seen below. We shot it all on the Canon 5D Mark II and also had the opportunity to film in the Royal Baths, which is a beautiful venue.

13.07.11 – Broadway Casino – Video Production Birmingham

The video for Broadway Casino is now on Vimeo and can be seen below. We were pleasantly surprised at how lovely this Casino is. Plus they have an amazing Thai restaurant so if you need a break from gambling then you can relax with some lovely food.

13.07.11 – The Yorke Arms- Video Production Birmingham

We had a lovely time filming this video at The Yorke Arms. The video is to promote the beautiful Restaurant with rooms hidden away in the Yorkshire dales. We are really hoping to go back again very soon. Check out the video below:

16.06.11 – The Boodles- Video Production Birmingham

With the Tennis season here about to start we have been asked to produce a promo video for The Boodles. This is an annual tennis event held in Buckinghamshire and attracts some of the worlds finest players. We are filming tomorrow so I hope this rain holds off and we get a bit of sun. 15.06.11 – Raleigh Corporate- Video Production Birmingham

When the economy is bad then it can be a struggle for people to start their own business. However recent studies have shown that franchises have the highest chance of survival. One of the main reasons for this is because of the already existing brand but also because of the level of support that is provided. This DVD has been produced in order to show potential franchisees the benefits of working with Raleigh who will support you right from the beginning with marketing as well as setting up the actual store.

15.06.11 – Delcam Promo – Video Production Birmingham

Our most ambitious project to date was this promotional video for Delcam. They wanted something to really get their sales team motivated so wanted to have a video that showed the variety of products they had to sell and to show that they were a forward thinking company. We are thankful for their trust in us on this project as we approached it differently then perhaps we may have done before. Rather than follow the traditional sales video which may have been a montage of various product shots we created a world modelled using the latest 3D graphics. Thanks must also go to Petit Poit for the story boards and Brace Media for the amazing 3D work. Enjoy:

12.06.11 – Lot of catching up to do

Things have been busy over the past 4 months and a lot has changed. The first thing to notice I guess for those who know us well is that Verdant is now our new direction. Why Verdant? Well it feels like a fresh start, “new growth” and with that comes a new direction. Don’t worry we will still be making videos, in fact I feel our latest release of videos have been the best yet. We will also still be providing kit hire and trying to keep up to date with the ever changing camera market. However the new direction means a whole fresh look at the way the industry is moving and how we do things.
Video is as popular as ever yet more and more companies are trying to do the work in house, which doesn’t always work out best. So how can we help them? Well we now provide training to help them grow in confidence when using our/their kit. We recently trained two employees from BRMB and immediately i was able to see them become more confident in their film making. This in turn can produce partnerships and hopefully involve collaborating on larger more exciting jobs. We have lots of courses on offer from beginners film making to FCP and Adobe CS5 to name a few.
Over the past four or five years I have been sent a lot of crazy ideas for documentaries and every now and then there is a certain idea that sticks out. The first of which was Age of Grace, which looked at how older people are treated around the world. From one simple idea, we were launched all over the world filming people about their experiences. The most recent idea is called 3 Wheels North. Ollie called me one day and talked about his idea of which involved something about motorbikes. Somehow that has now developed and Ollie is at the moment travelling up to the Artic Circle on a 2nd World War bike called the Ural. We have been filming it and look forward to completing the documentary when he returns in around 3 months time. This openness to crazy ideas is what we like and we hope for it to continue even more but the focus will change in terms of how we market and sell the finished film.
Finally the emergence of apps and the capabilities they have has been a real eye opener. It feels like a time when you can be massively creative again and lose yourself in new ideas. We already have 3 apps in pre production, two focussing on video production and one for a totally different market.
So here is hoping we continue to grow and collaborate with as many people as possible whilst always sharing our Verdant Vision. .

20.02.11 – Filming the Joe Short Music Video – Video Production Birmingham

We finally began filming the Joe Short video this weekend. We had the set built by Chris from Boxxed.co.uk and shot the video also in Boxxed who provided a great space and service. The Art Department headed by Lisa Williams had to create a variety of settings to reveal various stages during the course of a relationship. Everyone has done a great job in creating what will be a very unique video and I look forward to working with the same team on the next project.

14.02.11 – @Verdant welcomes 3 new staff members

@Verdant would like to give a warm welcome to 3 new staff members. Vicki joins us as a Graphic Designer and will also work on motion graphics in After Effects, Paul joins us as our Junior Editor and Seda joins as Production Assistant. We hope everyone enjoys working with us in the Zoo and we look forward to them growing and developing their skills.

26.01.11 – Interviewing for new positions in @Verdant

Today we are over in Wolverhampton, in the Lighthouse Cinema, interviewing candidates for 4 new positions. We are looking for a Graphic Designer, an Editor, a Production Assistant and a Sales and Marketing person. Really looking forward to having a busy office again as we look to really push things even further this year. There will be updates as soon as we have hired the people we like.

20.01.11 – Meeting with Director and provisional crew

Heading down to London to meet potential Director and crew for the documentary. It will be very exciting to sit around the table and discuss the various issues contained within the book as well as discuss creatively how we tell the story. I look forward to sharing further updates about this as and when it happens.

10.01.11 – Delcam TV and The Nehemiah Foundation

Work continues on Delcam TV’s corporate video as well as post production work for the Nehemiah Foundation. The video for Delcam TV has been inspired by the new Audi A7 TV advert so if you haven’t seen it check it out on YouTube. The Nehemiah Foundation is getting close to it’s first rough cut after we finished filming in December. We are looking forward to seeing the end results for both projects. We also have new developments on the documentary called “Escape from Iran” so more on that to follow.

05.01.11 – Happy New Year and new website

Happy New Year and welcome to the new and updated @Verdant website. We have moved over to a wordpress based website so it will make it all very easy to update and keep you in the loop as to what is happening here @Verdant. Last year continued to see us work on some great projects including Humza Foods, Nehemiah Project, Bass 2010, Force India with Delcam TV to name a few and with our partners Brace Media we launched a new product called Gym Rate Heroes. We also finished filming our documentary Age of Grace with the final shoot taking place in Perth, Australia, which was very nice and we moved into a lovely bigger office so all in all 2010 was a really good year! Here’s to 2011!

23.12.10 – New Corporate video confirmed with Delcam TV

The final day in the office as well as a presentation to win a new corporate job with Delcam TV. They wanted something to really get their sales staff to look at Delcam in a different way and bring new energy to the team so we provided a story boarded presentation which really pushes our creative skills and in turn will really provide something that will make Delcam stand out from the crowd.

20.12.10 – Documentary “Escape from Iran” confirmed.

Documentary confirmed! Escape from Iran tells a harrowing tale of one young mans life as he tries to escape from the Iranian army he had been kidnapped and forced to serve in. Some of the details from story are really shocking but he is not an individual case as this and many other similar stories happened to lots of people who were in Iran in the 1980′s. A lot more to follow on this as we begin to build up the crew.

13.12.10 – Music Video for Joe Short confirmed

Music Video for Joe Short. Confirmed! We will be shooting a music video for Joe Short in February to coincide with the release of his first solo album. The video will be shot in KIngsheath studios where we will be having a purpose built set with a 180 degree track going around half of it. More to follow…

Beginners Guide to Filmmaking

The Beginners Guide to Filmmaking is your complete course to help you understand the basics of filming. The course covers everything from using the camera, shooting terms and techniques, basic lighting set ups as well as basic editing functions. It is specifically for those who want to gain a better understanding of what is involved and can then use this basic knowledge to grow and develop.

Course Content

Overview of the Sony Z1 camera. Lighting techniques using Dedo lights, which is perfect for interview scenarios. Various shooting terms so you know what people mean when they ask you to do something and finally editing on Final Cut Pro.

Price and Times

The course is a 3 days course. The first day covering the various camera terms and shooting techniques. The second day we will cover the post production side of things and the final day will be a hands on practical day where you get to film something and edit it in the studio.

Our Final Cut Pro Course is perfect for absolute beginners or for those who know a bit about editing but want to get to grips with the way FCP works. The course will guide you through the initial steps of setting up FCP right the way through to exporting your file.
